GOVERNMENT OF THE TOWN OF IRON GATE

The Town of Iron Gate is organized under a Mayor-Council form of government which is responsible for supervising and directing the day-to-day operations of the town.

The mayor is elected for a two-year term and presides over meetings of the council and is recognized as the official head of the town for all ceremonial purposes, by the courts for the purpose of serving civil process, and by the Governor for military purposes. In times of public danger or emergency, he maintains order and enforces the law.

The Town Council sets policy and serves as the legislative, law-making body responsible for adopting ordinances and resolutions, approving annual operating and budgets, establishing tax rates and fees, and appointing citizen members of boards, committees, and commissions. The six council members are elected at large and serve overlapping four-year terms. A vice mayor is chosen from the council by the mayor.

Regular Town Council meetings are scheduled for the last Thursday of each month at Iron Gate Town Hall, while a monthly work session is scheduled for the third Monday each month. All meetings are public with the exception of executive sessions.
